Select the Best Practice Lock Stand

If you are going to make use of Practice Locks in your quest for lockpicking skills – and we highly advise you do – it only makes sense to purchase a good Practice Lock Stand or select from our large assortment of Practice Lock Holders. Practice Lock Stands make it ten times easier to do your practicing. Some of them allow for a wide range of adjustment so that the practice lock can be held firmly in just any position you desire, while others are less costly but not at all adjustable.
While the Locksmith or student can use a bench vise . . . or maybe a pair of Vise Grips taped firmly to a work bench, a good stand is much more sensible because it has been designed for the job. There has to be some manner in which a Practice Lock is held firmly so the student can have the use of both hands, for lock picking practice. Just try to pick a lock cylinder that is not housed in a complete lockset and you'll see the need for a stand. To hold it in your hand while working with lock picks would be an exercise in futility because you need both hands for pick and tension tools. Vise clamps of various sorts are usually bulky, costly and so heavy duty as to risk damage to the lock cylinder.

PRACTICE LOCK HEADS
These 'heads' are interchangeable on the following Practice Lock Stands:
PikStation Supreme
TriPik-II

They are easy to change out, as each head simply screws on to the ball socket joint which is part of the stand.
If you have a PikStation Supreme, for instance, it came with a TriPik Deluxe head. You can purchase one of the other heads and change them out at will.

The use of a hobby bench vise is, of course, perfectly acceptable, but not everyone has a bench vise and those that do quite often have them out in their garage. Not the nicest place to set up your practice sessions (I'm assuming). Opening a lock in the field does not require a stand, obviously, but when you set out to learn how to pick a lock using Practice Locks it is foolish not to own at least a small Solo Pick or TriPik. Your Locksmith Training will suffer without one.
When I started this web site there was no such thing as a Practice Lock Stand. I saw a need and filled it, offering the TriPik Stand as far back as 2001.
